Serving and veteran Grenadier Guards will come together on Sunday 19 May 2024 for our annual day of remembrance.

There will be a service in the Guards Chapel followed by a parade at the Guards Memorial.  The Regimental Lieutenant Colonel invites all Grenadiers, ‘Past and Present’, and their families to join us to pause and remember our fallen comrades.

Regimental Remembrance Day 2024 is the year for the 30th Anniversary of the Formation of Nijmegen Company (3rd August 1994) and the 2nd Battalion being placed in Suspended Animation (5th November 1994).

Timings are:

  • 12:30 – Gates open for arrivals.
  • 12:00 – Refreshments stand on the main square opens.
  • 12:00 – Sgts Mess bar open for serving and ex serving mess members.
  • 14:15 – All to be seated in the Guards Chapel.
  • 14:25 – Regimental Colonel/Lieutenant Colonel arrives at the Chapel.
  • 14:30 – Service of Remembrance commences in the Chapel.
  • 15:05 – ‘Fall In’ sounded by the drummer.  All those not attending the chapel service form up on the main square in there respective Battalions (Please be aware the Sergeants Mess bar will close during the service and march to Horse Guards).
  • 15:15 – Chapel service finishes and the remainder fall in.
  • 15:30 – The Regiment steps off from Wellington Barracks for Horse Guards.
  • 15:50 – Wreath laying ceremony at the Guards Memorial and the parade marches past.
  • 16:05 – The Regiment steps off from Horse Guards back to Wellington Barracks.
  • 16:20 – The President of the Association addresses the Regiment and reads the Loyal Messages.
  • 16:30 – The Regiment is dismissed (Sergeants Mess bar to re-open).
  • 19:00 – Sergeants Mess bar closes.

Order of Dress:

  • Serving and non-serving other ranks – Serving Other Ranks are to wear a dark suit, white shirt with Brigade tie and medals.  Association members are to wear a dark suit or blazer with Brigade tie and medals (no berets are to be worn).
  • Serving and non-serving Officers – Officers are to wear a bowler hat, dark suit, stiff collar, Brigade tie, medals and carry a tightly furled black umbrella, as per standing orders.

Parking:

  • Coaches/Minibus’s – Coaches and other vehicles will be able to park on Mall North Horse Ride, the Mall, under the control of nominated parking marshals from 1230hrs:i. The Mall is closed on Sundays to vehicles; however, this area is to be accessed by approaching the Mall from Pall Mall/Marlborough Road and turning left immediately before the Mall.ii. Exit is to be made from the southern end crossing the Mall into Horse Guards Road.

    iii. North Horse Ride must be clear of vehicles by 1800hrs.  The Royal Parks Police have directed that any vehicle left in this area after that time will be locked in overnight.

    iv. On arrival into London, coaches may drop off on the main square (entry and exit via the West Picquet Gate) and can be called forward to pick up from the square at Wellington Barracks once the Parade has been dismissed.  All coaches must leave Wellington Barracks by 1900hrs.

    c. Registration. All vehicles, whether they are parking in Wellington Barracks or at Mall North Horse Ride, need to be registered by make & model and VRN with the Regimental Affairs NCO by 03 May 2024.  Car passes will not be issued in advance.

  • Personal Cars – There is no parking for personal vehicles in Wellington Barracks. Anyone wishing to travel by personal vehicle must park in the NCP car parks in the local area (Hyde park is the closest to Wellington Barracks 1.2 miles).  However, parking for VIPs, Blue Badge disabled card holders (who must be in possession of their Blue Badge to gain entry) and the Household Division Corps of Drums will be made available in Wellington Barracks from 1230hrs.  Requests for parking at this location are to be forwarded to the Regimental Affairs NCO at Regimental Headquarters (LCpl Brice Fanning (0207 414 3284) via email to regtlaffairsnco@grengds.com.  No other vehicles will be given authority to park in Wellington Barracks and will be declined entry.
