On 31 July 2025, the President of the Grenadier Guards Association (Lt Col (Ret’d) Guy Denison-Smith) wrote to Branches to advise on some sad news.

A difficult decision has had to be made to cancel Grenadier Day in 2026. This decision has been discussed and agreed with the Regimental Council and the Trustees. They have based this decision on two main factors. These factors are:

  1. Next year will see the Regiment being presented new colours to both the First Battalion and Nijmegen Company; and the first battalion colours will then be trooped in June. This is a significant undertaking for the Regiment, particularly the small team in Regimental Headquarters.
  2. The First Battalion, immediately after the Troop, will embark on an extensive period of training that is mandated by the Army. They will, therefore, not be available to fully support Grenadier Day at Lille Barracks.

The Association President is sorry to bring you this news. He knows that there are many who support and attend Grenadier Day and this decision will be a disappointment. He can only apologise on behalf of the Regimental Council and the Trustees, but they have been presented with a perfect (but good) storm in 2026. 2026 will be a great Grenadier Year, he can assure you. He can also assure you that they will do everything they can to ensure that Grenadier Day returns in 2027.

The Association President thanks you for your continued support to the Association and the wider Regiment.
