DESCRIPTION:  \nTHIS IS NOT AN EVENT ORGANISED BY KENT GRENADIERS \nIT IS SHOWN HERE BECAUSE BRANCH MEMBERS WILL BE ON PARADE\, OR IT IS LIKELY OF INTEREST TO OUR MEMBERS\, OR OF INTEREST OTHERS WHO VISIT OUR WEBSITE \nRemembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. \nIt is held at 11 am on the second Sunday in November (the Sunday nearest to 11 November\, Armistice Day\, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War in 1918).  \nIt is marked by ceremonies at local war memorials in most cities\, towns and villages\, attended by civic dignitaries\, ex-servicemen and women (many are members of the Royal British Legion and other veterans’ organisations)\, members of local armed forces regular and reserve units (Royal Navy and Royal Naval Reserve\, Royal Marines and Royal Marines Reserve\, Army and Territorial Army\, Royal Air Force and Royal Auxiliary Air Force)\, military cadet forces (Sea Cadet Corps\, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps as well as the Combined Cadet Force) and youth organisations (e.g. Scouts\, Boys’ Brigade\, Girls’ Brigade and Guides). Representatives of the Judiciary also lay wreaths at local War Memorials throughout the country. Wreaths of remembrance poppies are laid on the memorials and two minutes’ silence is held at 11 am. Church bells are usually rung half-muffled\, creating a sombre effect. The service is held for about two hours. \nHythe Service – The Kent Branch will attend the commemoration at the War Memorial in Hythe\, Kent. \nMembers are requested to assemble by 1020 hrs on the south side of Ladies Walk Bridge.  We will then be formed up\, by the Parade Marshall\, ready to march onto parade. \nBranch members and Branch Banner in attendance\, please.

At 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918\, the guns finally fell silent on the Western Front after more than four years of unimaginable suffering. The Armistice signed between the Allies and Germany brought hostilities to a close and offered the world its first fragile glimpse of peace. \nMore than a century later\, Armistice Day remains a solemn and unifying moment for the nation. It is a day not only to remember the fallen of the First World War\, but to honour all who have served\, suffered\, or sacrificed in conflicts since. \nThe Two Minutes’ Silence \nAt the heart of Armistice Day is the Two Minutes’ Silence at 11 a.m. This simple act of collective stillness—observed in workplaces\, schools\, homes\, and on streets across the country – allows us to pause and reflect. In those quiet moments\, we acknowledge the courage of those who served\, the grief of families left behind\, and the enduring cost of war. \nThe silence is a reminder that remembrance is not passive. DESCRIPTION:THIS IS NOT AN EVENT ORGANISED BY KENT GRENADIERS \nIT IS SHOWN HERE BECAUSE IT IS LIKELY OF INTEREST TO OUR MEMBERS\, OR OTHERS WHO VISIT OUR WEBSITE \nThe scheduled date for the King’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) is Saturday 12 June 2027. \nTrooping the Colour is an annual event that has marked the sovereign’s official birthday for two-and-a-half centuries. Upholding the tradition\, His Majesty King Charles III\, who was born on November 14 1948\, will celebrate his birthday twice. Once on his actual birthday and then publicly at Trooping The Colour in June.  Each Regiment has a Colonel who is either a member of the Royal Family or a senior officer. \nThe British Army has not yet officially announced which Foot Guards regiment will troop the colour at The King’s Birthday Parade in 2027\, so there is no confirmed answer as yet. \nThe parade has historically featured more than 1\,400 parading soldiers\, 200 horses and 400 musicians. Beginning at Buckingham Palace\, the Parade moved down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade\, where it was joined by Members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages. The Parade closed with the traditional RAF fly-past\, watched by The Monarch and Members of the Royal Family from the Buckingham Palace balcony. \nPlease go to www.kbp.army.mod.uk to purchase your tickets to the Major General’s Review and the Colonel’s Review.
